If therapy is a relational process, it takes a person on the therapist’s end. The goal of this book is to capture the therapist’s evolving sense of self as it is shaped by our experiences as active participants in a creative interaction.
The essays in this book are first-person accounts, by eleven therapists, of some “Aha!” moments when they got to understand themselves better, and to understand better why they do what they do.
Essays by Cheryl Dolinger Brown, Mary J. Giuffra, Marianne Gunther, Lou Hagood , Claire Haiman, Robin Kappy, Linda Marks, Merle Molofsky, Marjorie Rand, Susan Rudnick, and Claire Beth Steinberger.

This book is wide-ranging in the primary orientations of its contributors, who are all integrative therapists, which is my own orientation as well. Their chapters are remarkably self-disclosing in ways I found touching and uplifting, having been in practice many years. There are also many narratives about dealing with traumatized patients which I plan to use in teaching. So often our textbooks concentrate on therapists who are overwhelmed, which is a validation for all of us sometimes. But this book brings together stories of working through and transcendence, a less frequent and much needed contribution which I plan to draw from in teaching about trauma treatment.Product details

Defining Moments For Therapists eBook Serge Prengel Lynn Somerstein Reviews
This amazing book brings us inside the personal world of therapists. Human beings who have devoted years to understanding behavior, mind, body and spirit. Reading through this book I stopped during every chapter to honor the wisdom of individuals who allowed their central selves to write with such strength and courage. A wonderful read that will touch your heart, not once, but many times.

I bought this to read on my Nook (sorry). I read 3/4 of it on a plane trip and finished it the next time I picked it up. It was cool to hear from the other side and I had some interesting insights to therapists and my own therapy. Loved it!
Wonderful, quick and easy read. This book is filled with a wide variety of individuals recounting moments of their personal journey in the field of mental health. I especially enjoyed the chapter on, "Consciousness of Babies," as this topic is not generally covered in formal training. A must read.
This was fun to read, but was not in the condition that was advertised, "Condition Used - Very Good". (There were underlines and highlites throughout the book - a bit annoying, but not impossible to deal with).
Thoughtful, heartfelt, enlightening. Thank you for sharing the soulful lives of therapists who serve so many.

This was a unique and revealing glimpse into the lives and work of the people who support those with unbelievably difficult issues every day. I was honored to be able to learn what these tireless individuals share with their clients and from where some draw their inspiration and understanding. Beautiful insight into the humanity we all share and sometimes take for granted when we're "on the couch". Much respect to the professionals in this field who truly care about those they support. It is a work of grace that is shown in every story.
A lovely look inside a truly noble calling.
